“I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, the vet that we were seeing in Mesquite was not as attentive, nor friendly enough to ask questions about our pet. We care and love our Westie as most owners do. We only want the best care for her.

Rockwall Pet Hospital says, puppies are so cute; everybody loves them. They’re cuddly, fun, playful and curious and we tend to enjoy every part of having a new puppy until they go potty in the house and then we have to contend with the biggest problem and difficulty of having a new puppy, puppy house breaking.

One of the most crucial thing to remember and to be wary of is that your puppy is still just a baby. He does not yet have the comprehension level to control his potty habits or to know what you are asking him to do when you tell him to go potty. You will have to have patience and work with him closely for a couple of weeks before he has the ability to alert you when it is time to go out and to manage his bladder and other functions.

At the beginning you might need to take your puppy out to potty as often as 2 to 3 times in an hour. That may seem like a lot but a little puppy does not yet understand how to control himself and the active playing that most puppies do creates urine. Nighttime may be better as a resting puppy will not need to go out as often. Never wake a sleeping puppy just to go out to potty but rather just make sure and take him out as soon as possible after he awakens.

The important thing to remember if you are potty training your puppy is to be consistent. Make sure and use a leash and take him to the same designated spot every time. Use consistent commands such as “potty now” and repeat the commands as required. Consistency is what it important when it comes to puppy potty training.

As you are potty training your puppy you will need to make sure that the experience is as positive as can be for your puppy. If he ever develops any fear of your reactions or if he ever feels fear that he is doing it wrong your potty training efforts will take longer. Your puppy wants to please you and if he does not know how to do that it will take more time for him to learn about housebreaking.

Using a crate will assist you in your house training when you need to be away from your puppy. Dogs naturally try to keep their own space clean so a crate will help your pup to learn to control himself. Puppies are also natural den animals so they enjoy having a small space that belongs to them.

Keeping a positive atmosphere and consistency will be the most crucial aspects of your puppy house training. Ensure that you are consistently taking your puppy outside the house, that you consistently take him to the same spot and that you consistently give him praise and treats for a job well done. If you make the whole puppy house training experience a positive one for your puppy you’ll have success quicker and it will be more effective.

In a just a few weeks your puppy house training will be over and you will no longer have to be concerned about accidents in the house. Puppy house training is the most important aspect of owning a new puppy but it can be much simpler than you expect if you are consistent and positive.
