Dog Strollers Are Built For Strength And Fun Says Rockwall Veterinarians

As canines are increasingly viewed as vital family members, so does the availability of devices that make life easier for you and your pup. Dog strollers are one such item now on the market. Yes, that is right, you can now bring your pooch along for the ride.

The places you will be able to take your pup and the duration of your adventure together will increase with the use of a dog stroller. A very young puppy needs attention and constant stimulation to keep out of trouble. However, the young joints and bones are growing and should not be stressed too much during the first six months by excessive running or jumping on hard surfaces. Using a buggy to take your young pup for short walks, followed by longer rides while you walk, can be a great way to tire a wee one and get exercise. Also, if you have a senior dog, or one that is recovering from an injury, using a pet stroller can be a great way to allow him to enjoy the out of doors without putting too much strain on the old or healing body.

It is entirely possible to purchase a pet stroller without spending a fortune. Prices vary with the lower end being very simple models. Mid-range buggies have a variety of desirable features, or if you prefer all the bells and whistles for your pampered pup, expect to spend quite a bit more. There are a multitude of dog strollers on the market. They can be purchased locally at your pet shop or big box retailer where you can try them out. Or, you can shop for every model and option out there on the internet. A popular auction site lists nearly 900 available dog strollers.

Pet transports come in many sizes and with a variety of options, both necessary and nice. The most important factors to consider are the size of your dog and where and when you will use the stroller. Sizes are based on the weight of your dog and can run from 15 pounds up to 150 pounds. If you will be running on uneven surfaces or rugged outdoor terrain, opt for models that are designed to take this type of beating. Choose from built-in shock absorbers and airless tires for comfort and durability. If your dog is prone to jumping out or gets anxious when approached by other dogs, you may want to use one that is fully enclosed with durable mesh webbing to withstand chewing or pawing. Consider paying more for waterproof or wind resistant fabrics if you plan to use in all weather conditions. Also, several strollers have multiple uses and can be converted to a basic hand carrier, car seat, or travel crate.

After deciding on the primary features you will be able to refine your selection based on a variety of options. There are many color and fabric choices from which to choose. From chic patterns to basic solids, and cup holders to cargo areas for carrying your favorite beverage, jackets and treats. Whatever added features you choose, be sure to opt for those that also create added visibility in low light or at night, as well as locking wheels to help keep you and your pet safe.

After selecting the appropriate dog stroller, you will need to get your pup to use it. In theory, your canine should enjoy being taken for a ride in a stroller, but in reality not all dogs appreciate the benefits the first time out. To get Fido or Fluffy comfortable, you will want to start with short walks. You may also have to lure him with his favorite treats. Be sure once in the stroller you give praise and reward him, either with more treats or a favorite toy. Make this a positive and fun experience from the start and he will be hopping in as soon as he sees the joy buggy brought to the door.

A stroller is a wonderful way for you and your dog to spend more time together. It should not be used as a replacement for necessary exercise through daily walks or access to a safe off-leash area. If used to supplement your pups adventures outdoors, you both will be healthier and happier in the long run.

Pet strollers are easy and convenient for pets who get tired of being held but love to be with you. Dog strollers come in all sizes and dimensions for dogs from Great Danes to Chihuahuas.

Blue Mitted Ragdoll Ownership Tips From Rockwall Veterinarians

In the 1960s, Californian Ann Baker discovered kittens that would eventually become the beginning of the blue mitted ragdoll breed. The litter all had very unique Himalayan coats and vibrant blue eyes, along with the tendency to relax to the point of going limp when they were picked up. The parents were Baker’s own Persian-like female cat and a Burmese-type sire.

These felines are large and muscular, in fact being one the largest domesticated breeds at this time. Females are the smaller of the two sexes, weighing in between eight to fifteen pounds. However, males range from about twelve to twenty pounds. They mature quite slowly, taking about three to four years before reaching full weight and coat maturity. Ragdolls all have blue eyes and are born completely white. It can take several weeks to see its true color.

One of several qualities that make this particular feline so popular is their mellow, easy going nature. They’re also quite affectionate, social, quiet, and trusting. These cats will follow you around like a puppy. Also highly intelligent and curious, the creature is easy to train.

The blue mitted is only one color and pattern of the breed. These are slate grey colorpoints, and all their actual markings are white. This includes the chin, belly stripe, mittens on their paws, and boots on the back legs. Although their coats are somewhat long, the undercoat is not very thick. Because of this, they do not shed or mat as much as other cats. To keep them well groomed, brush out once or twice a week. To add moisture and make the coat shiny, you can add spray-on conditioner.

When it comes to feeding your new four-legged friend, opt for canned food over dry kibble. This is mainly because the main ingredients in most dry food are grains, or carbohydrates. Cats are carnivores, so their nutritional needs run high in meat and protein. Since the composition of canned foods is almost completely meat and water, it is technically better for their systems.

Make sure that you always keep your veterinarian appointments, as you would with any other pet. This is the best way to detect any potential problems before they grow into something that is a greater issue. Have them examined at least once a year, and keep them on heart worm and flea preventative year-round. The feline’s most important vaccinations are the FVRCP combo, rabies, FIP, and feline leukemia and AIDS. Stay up to date.

The blue mitted ragdoll has many traits that make it a wonderful and entertaining companion. With the proper care, one of these fantastic cats could make a great friend for several years.

Rockwall Veterinarian Ways To Care For A Blind Dog

Caring for a blind dog can be kind of tricky sometimes. Everything can be smooth sailing if it’s done right. It’s only normal that you feel sorry for the pet because of what has happened to it and its current situation, but don’t make your dog dependent on you completely.

Pets are just like humans. They eat, live, and breathe air. Treat them as such. Don’t enable them from the real world. This means that you let your pet be on his own with some things. Just because he is blind, does not mean that he is not trustworthy to do some things on his own.

The first part is up to you. You have to set up some rules and regulations. Your pet may be blind, but he can still hear, smell, taste, and feel. Your house should always be clean and tidy. Try your best not to switch furniture around too much and leave things out of place. This could confuse the dog and could even send him into a panic.

The first step is very important. Make sure your home is dog proof. It’s just like baby proofing everything in your home, but you don’t have to worry about the sockets. There has to be a clear pathway in every room of your home. By doing this, your pet will learn where everything is located and will be able to maneuver around everything without having trouble.

When you bring your new best friend home, make sure he or she feels welcomed. Dogs can sense emotions and feelings very well. Before you let him walk around and get used to things, take him through every part of his new home. If there are places in the house where he shouldn’t be, don’t make that part of the route. This way, he won’t be used to going in, out, or around these specific areas.

If he wants to stop and sniff for a few seconds, let him. He is just trying to familiarize himself with the new room. It may not be new to you, but to him it is.

Be sure to block off any stairs that you have with a doggy gate. If you don’t have one, using a baby gate or guard will work just fine. As long as there is something in front of the stairs to block him from going down them and getting hurt, it will all be fine.

It’s also a good idea to purchase a bell and a whistle. The bell is placed around the dog’s neck. Make sure it’s not too tight, but you don’t want it really loose either. The bell will help you tell where the dog is around the house. The whistle is for your dog as well, but for you to use of course. You can teach him to respond to certain whistle codes.

When training your dog, developing consistency and a good attention span, as well as understanding your pet's needs are key to good training.

Canine Training Techniques From Rockwall Veterinarians

When training your dog, developing consistency and a good attention span, as well as understanding your pet’s needs, are key to good training.

A consistently trained dog would normally show you respect. A dog must understand that there are things it should and shouldn’t do. Reinforce this by giving your dog a treat should he or she follow the rules, and punishing him or her for breaking the rules – it is important to make sure the rules are all followed. Dogs know if their owners are consistent or not and treat them accordingly. Dog training can be much easier if you are consistent and, subsequently respected by your pet.

The bulk of good dog training depends on how you can sustain your dog’s attention and make it maintain its focus. If a dog isn’t focused, he or she would routinely ignore, not understand, or refuse to understand your commands. Here are a few quick examples on how you can encourage your dog to pay attention to you. Shout out the word “watch” as your dog looks at you after you call him or her over by name. Once you’ve done this a few times, your dog would be able to recognize the command as one where he or she has to look at you. A dog’s attention span can be improved, but first, drill him or her on the “watch” technique – with success. As a follow-up to the “watch” command, give the command after you hold a doggy treat with your teeth in front of your dog. Maintain your position for a few seconds and watch as your dog tries to pay attention. Repeat this exercise as needed, preferably until your dog can pay attention to you for a minute. It’s not that hard to develop a good attention span in your pet dog.

Effective dog obedience training can truly be achieved if you know how your dog thinks. A dog’s focus is usually limited to a short period of time. The average dog can only pay attention for about ten to twenty minutes, before demanding a break in training due to lack of focus. That’s why it’s a good idea to schedule regular dog training to last no more than thirty minutes on any given day. And you can make training more fun for your dog – this can help improve its focus. Let’s face it, dogs do not normally enjoy training – you will need to make them enjoy it somehow. Your dog needs to appreciate training and why you are doing it for him or her. You can never have enough treats as a prize for successfully obeyed commands – and you should also sound like you mean it when you give praise. Like humans, motivated dogs make better students.

These are among the simplest techniques you can use, but there are more ways to improve your dog’s training than what can be contained in this short piece. Training doesn’t have to be drudgery for a dog — he or she can enjoy the training and the time you spend together, show respect for you as the owner, and make you look like a good and responsible owner in your neighborhood.

Rockwall Veterinarian Shares Tips On Looking After Your Pup’s Ears

Dog’s ears are breeding grounds for all types of bacteria and fungus. Did you know that there might just be a whole colony of mites living in your pup’s ear right now? This is because they absolutely thrive in areas where it is moist, warm and dark. So, you need to do everything possible to clean your dog’s ears.

Before cleaning your puppy’s ears, you must inspect them first. A healthy outer ear of the dog should look light pink in color, should be clean and should not emit any foul odor.

Also, you want to check for any wax buildup inside the ear. Do note though that some amount of dirt and wax is fine, but if you notice a larger than normal amount present, it may be a possibility that mites are around.

If your dog has been scratching his ears way too much, then check the inside and the outside of his ear. Look for nicks, cuts, scabs, infection or mites.

If the above signs show the presence of an infection or ear mites, then the right thing to do is to take your pet to an veterinarian who will prescribe the right treatment.

But if see no signs of mites or any infection, you should begin with cleaning the ears. You should usually only try to clean the visible part of the ear. So, just remove any wax or dirt that you see on the outer ear. Just take a soft cloth or cotton ball and dip it into a cleaning solution just meant for a dog’s ears. The ear canal is not usually cleaned.

If for some reason you want to clean deeper in the ear, you should consult the vet first. There are solutions that can be dropped or squirted in the ear. But if your dog has never had any ear problems, you should avoid doing this. Vets generally believe that these will only cause problems for the dog. But if you are planning on cleaning the ear canal, then clean it before cleaning the outer ear.

The ears of the dog should also be allowed to dry naturally. If your dog has long ears, then it is best to pin them back as this will allow the ear to dry out completely. This is necessary to prevent any kind of infections from occurring in the ear canals, and regular checking and maintenance is advised.

Chihuahua Training Tips From Rockwall Veterinarians

Chihuahua training can be one of the nicest things you do with your new (or old) pet. Not only will you wind up with a better pet, you’ll build a robust bond with your dog as you go through the training. It’s vital that you start training your dog as soon as possible because each day you wait is another day you have to put up with aggression, biting, barking, gnawing, jumping, and bathroom “accidents”.

Chihuahua training can present some unique challenges that you aren’t getting with other dogs. This doesn’t mean they’re bad dogs or you should not own one, you simply need to grasp their nature in order to better train one. These tiny dogs are fragile. They really are not suited to be around kids as kids have a tendency to be a bit rough on pets and this could badly hurt or kill a Chihuahua. Even simple things like jumping out of your arms or off the sofa can seriously injure this little dog.

Chihuahuas are also one of the toughest dogs to house train. While some dogs will simply take to going outside to go to the bathroom, these tiny dogs seem to have a difficult time grasping the tenet that they shouldn’t poop on the floor.

Another probably difficult trait for Chihuahua training is stubbornness. These dogs are very smart and have a mind of their own. They can also be manipulative so you’ve got to take a robust hand and be consistent with training. If you give them an inch, they will take a mile. They’re also subject to nonstop barking and inconsistent behavior. While their small bark is adorable at first, it can soon begin to get on your nerves.

Now that you are aware of some potential difficulties, it is time to talk about the solution. You actually need to have structured training. The best thing to do is to get a program like the methods to Dog Training and do your Chihuahua training at home.
Are Chain Link Kennels Good For Your Dogs? – Rockwall Veterinarians Answer

Chain link dog kennels have been utilized for many years. They’ve been successfully used for puppies of all kinds. Nowadays, with our canines becoming more and more like members of the household, some may ask if utilizing one of these simple products is good for their pet. If appropriately utilized, the advantages of having one are wonderful.

If you are thinking about constructing or purchasing a chain link dog run, you most likely have some motives for this. Possessing a kennel, if employed properly, is a sensible way to provide your canine friend a little mobility while still keeping her secure and protected from any threat, including the problems which result from your dog attempting to roam and investigate our ridiculous human world.

The main point to keep in mind when determining if one of these simple items is appropriate for your dog is to really consider just what it will likely be used for. It should not be utilized as a place to just place your dog in and leave her. This occurs frequently, and if that happens to be your intention, it is likely you should not even have a family dog.

I spent my youth with canines and we had dog kennels in our backyard since I’m able to remember. I never understood the reason why some individuals had been so against these products and thought it was cruel treatment to use one with your family pet. After observing how many people abuse what they have been specifically made for, I actually do understand it now, and think I was lucky to grow up in a family unit where our pet dogs were by no means abandoned and kept in the run day in and day out.

In order for an outdoor run to be advantageous is to use it as a supplement to taking proper care of your canines. They are beneficial, however they may also be bad. Proper exercise, nutrition, care, and training is important to the health and happiness of your dog, and when these simple requirements are met, then having a chain link kennel can help out in a good way.

I spent my youth with bird dogs and we were consistently doing something together, whether it was hunting, playing fetch, or maybe enjoying a daily stroll. There was considerable time away from the run, including a good amount of time in the home, and it made for many great memories. Your canine’s needs have to be satisfied daily, and if these very simple factors are considered, then dog kennels may be one of the very best residences for your canine.

Many are convinced caging your puppy is cruel. In fact cages safeguard pups from hurting itself and save your home furnishings when it’s free to roam around the house. Nevertheless, you have got the final call whether or not to place your puppy in the cage.
Depending on the breed of dog, your puppy usually stays on this diet for about 18 months. Please note that you should not prematurely change from puppy food to adult dog food. Simply because adult dog foods have somewhat higher nutrition content as compared with puppy foods and these kinds of high nutrition amounts may cause some bone irregularities and also kidney disease.

Toys

Toys that are made from rope, latex, fleece, vinyl and also rubber help keep your puppy busy.

Grooming tools
