“I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, the vet that we were seeing in Mesquite was not as attentive, nor friendly enough to ask questions about our pet. We care and love our Westie as most owners do. We only want the best care for her.

Rockwall Veterinary Hospital are you fed up with constant barking at late hours of the night? Even the most experienced dog trainers sometimes have to face the fact that regular anti barking training isn’t working and a bark collar has to be brought in. A bark collar is not exactly the thing that dog owners would prefer to train their dogs with, but it’s effective and gets the job done.

Getting the right bark collar is very important so you should spend a little time shopping around before you buy one. To help you choose the best bark collar for your dog, here are some of the most popular types of bark collars available in the market today.

The Sonic Bark Collar

The sonic collar or ultrasound collar is the favorite of many dog owners everywhere. The sonic collar detects when your dog is barking and then reacts by emiting a very high pitched sound. The sound is meant to distract the dog from the source of the barking and make him wonder what’s going on. The sound that the collar emit is so high pitched that humans can’t hear it at all, although dogs can hear it without a problem. There are some dog owners that believe that the sound can be harmful because it’s so high pitched, but despite what you see in movies, you don’t suffer just because a sound is high pitched, like a high pitched opea singer. Anyway, the sound only lasts as long as the dog keeps barking, and if the sound makes the barking stop, therefore it can’t last long.

The Spraying Collar

The spray collar is designed to squirt out citronella spray unto the dog’s snout every time the dog barks. Citronella has a strong smell that can be very irritating to dogs. If your dog receives a squirt of citronella every time he barks, he will soon get the message that barking is a bad idea. Now, the downside of this type of collar is that smell of the citronella often lingers on the snout of your dog for several minutes or even hours in some cases. As it is it, your dog may suffer from anxiety due to the prolonged effect of the punishment. If you do not want your dog to be grumpy or morose after getting a squirt of citronella, you better not use the spray collar to stop your dog from barking.

Shock Bark Collar

The shock collar is well known among dog owners, but it’s also somewhat despised, despite it’s proven effectiveness in reducing unnecessary barking in dogs. The collar works by sending light electric pulses to the dog’s neck muscles whenever the dog barks. The idea of a dog receiving electric shocks for barking is somewhat difficult to accept for some dog owners.

If you want to get a bark collar, you have basically three choices. These are the ultrasonic collar, the electrical shock collar, and the citronella spray collar. Remember that any type of bark collar should be worn in short periods of time.
