Introducing Wolfenoot

November 15, 2020

The puparazzi are pretty excited! There’s a new doggy holiday on the calendar! Joining the ranks of such adorable celebrations as Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day, Cook For Your Pet Day, and If Pets Had Thumbs Day, we now have Wolfenoot. Wolfenoot is an official (okay, maybe not so official) celebration of wolves, dogs, and anyone who has been kind to them. A local vet discusses this new doggy holiday in this article.

History

Wolfenoot hasn’t been around for long, but it has already made quite an impression on the internet. This cute celebration was started back in 2018 by a seven-year old boy from New Zealand. The child had what may be one of the best ideas ever: celebrating the ‘Spirit of the Wolf’ and anyone who has dogs or has been kind to them. His mom quickly got on board with the idea, and helped him to promote it. The rest is history … or will be.

A Pawspicious Occasion

Wolfenoot is coming up on November 23rd. Why is it on the 23rd? Well, that is actually the anniversary of the death of the ‘Great Wolf,’ as described in the Wolfenoot Story book. The little boy who started Wolfenoot wrote the book, which can be purchased online through the Patchwork Raven here .

Celebrating

What does a dog lover do to celebrate Wolfenoot? This is where it gets really cute and fun. First, the ‘Spirit of the Wolf’ will hide small gifts for anyone who loves or has been kind to animals. If you want to get Fido involved, you can also hide some treats and toys for him to sniff out. After all the presents have been found, then the participants—who are of course called Wolfenati—should enjoy some red meat. Why red meat? Because that’s what wolves eat! (Vegetarians can enjoy a veggie burger instead.) Top dinner off with a round cake decorated like a full moon. As for Fido, give him something yummy as well. That’s not all! After dinner, wind down with a wolf or dog movie or documentary. If you make any Wolfenoot social media posts, use the hashtag #wolfenoot and the even more adorable #nohateonlysnootboops to help spread the word.

Helping Dogs

Another ‘pawesome’ thing you can do to celebrate Wolfenoot is to help dogs in need. There are many wonderful charities and animal rescues that could use donations or social media support. You can also help support a conservation society that helps wolves.
