Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

August 15, 2022

August 28th is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. If you’ve ever lost a beloved pet, you may very well be getting a lump in your throat already. It can be absolutely devastating to have to say goodbye to a dear furry friend, but it’s something that all of us will have to face sooner or later. And while nothing can turn back time, there are things you can do to honor your cherished buddy. A local Rockwall, TX vet offers some advice on this difficult transition below.

Honoring Your Beloved Pet

Our animal companions definitely leave pawprints on our hearts and souls. Taking a moment to do something in remembrance of your furry pal may prove to be very healing. You can plant a tree or flower as a living memorial, or paint a garden stone or flower pot in honor of your pet. Another option would be to create a collage, scrapbook, or digital photo album. Or, consider making a donation to a local animal charity or rescue in your furry friend’s name.

Children

For many children, the loss of a pet is their first experience with death. Losing a cherished furry companion can be difficult for anyone, but it can be particularly rough on kids. Although the experience may teach your child an important life lesson, it’s definitely not an easy one. Take time to talk to your little one. You can also encourage your youngster to do something creative to express their feelings. Drawing a picture, writing a poem, or making a journal entry are all great ways to cope with grief and loss.

Moving Forward

One thing that many people struggle with is deciding when to get another pet. There’s no set time frame for this: it’s different for everyone. That said, don’t shy away because you miss your special friend too much. Your next animal companion will be different from your last one, but that’s not a bad thing. Fido can bring you just as much love and joy as Rocky did! If there’s one thing we know about pets, it’s that they can melt our hearts very, very quickly. Think it over, and keep an open heart.

Have you recently lost a beloved pet? All of us at Pet Doctor, your Rockwall, TX pet hospital, send our condolences. We know how hard this can be, as we’re all animal lovers ourselves.
