Hiding A Litterbox

February 15, 2023

Kitties have many charming qualities, but one of the best things about them is the fact that they are so clean. You won’t have to race home to walk your feline buddy after work! However, Fluffy’s personal powder room isn’t exactly a great décor piece. It can also be a bit stinky. This can be especially challenging for those who live in apartments. A Rockwall, TX vet offers some tips on hiding Fluffy’s litterbox in this article.

Room Divider

If you don’t have much space, a room divider may be your best bet. You can find these in many different styles and colors. We’d recommend arranging it kitty corner, leaving just enough room for Fluffy to get in and out.

Spare Closet

Do you have a small closet you aren’t using? This can also be a good option. If you own your home or have landlord permission, you can even install a cat door.

Private Room

A utility room or an extra bathroom can also be a good spot for Fluffy’s powder room. Keep the fan running and/or crack a window for ventilation.

Plants

Plants can go a long way towards helping your place look and smell nice. They’re also good at filtering air. Set some pet-safe ones around your feline buddy’s litterbox to hide its presence and smell. Or, put the box under a sturdy end table and put several plants on that. (Make sure they won’t fall over onto your furball.) You can find a list online at the ASPCA website here

Camouflage

Drape a piece of cloth over an end table, and hide the litterbox beneath that. You’ll still want to keep it out of the way, but at least it won’t be obvious. Put a plant or timed air freshener on the table for extra help with battling smells.

Custom Pieces

You can now find many products that were made specifically for concealing kitty litterboxes. These may be more expensive than the other options, but they are also more attractive. For instance, there are some that look like huge plant pots. You can also make your own, out of a buffet, an end table with doors, or a trunk. Storage totes also work. Just cut a kitty door in it for your furry friend. Voila!
