Seizures are a brain malfunction which causes your pet’s body to convulse uncontrollably. They may also cause a loss of consciousness, drooling, uncontrolled urination and accidental pooping.
Seizures are fairly common in dogs, so the most important thing you can do is stay calm. Remember, your dog depends on you, so you must stay cool to keep them relaxed.
Take the following steps when your pet is having a seizure:
The first time your pet seizures, your pet should get a physical examination and some blood work as soon as possible after the seizure. Depending on what we find, your pet may not need to return to us after each seizure. If your pet is having seizures on a regular basis, having a cluster of seizures, or having seizures that last longer than 5 minutes, medication will need to be started to control them.
