Have you recently adopted a kitten? Congratulations on your furry new arrival! That first year is an important time for a baby cat. While cats don’t need as much training as dogs do, little Fluffy will need some guidance. A local Heath, TX vet lists a few things to teach your furry pal below.
Cats have a very deeply-ingrained instinct for keeping their claws sharp. This is definitely a case of ‘If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.’ Provide little Fluffy with a suitable nail-care station, and reward her with treats and praise for using it.
Our feline pals love to explore, well, everything. However, you’ll want to put a damper on your furry little adventurer’s plans. Kitties are always safer indoors, where they aren’t exposed to traffic, weather, or other hazards. It will be much easier keeping your cat indoors if she grows up as an inside-only pet.
Kittens are super playful, which is one reason they are so much fun. You’ll want to offer your tiny buddy lots of fun toys, and play with her regularly. Just don’t let her practice her pounces on you. That may be cute, but it can lead to some very dangerous and problematic behavior down the road. Those little claws are sharp!
Proper veterinary care is a big part of keeping your kitty happy and healthy. That means your feline pal will need to make regular trips to see her doctor. This will be easier for her if she thinks of her carrier as a cozy den. Add soft bedding, and give little Fluffy toys, treats, and catnip in it.
We may tease Fluffy for being calculating and aloof, but that really isn’t the case at all. Kitties form very close bonds with their humans! That special love and friendship needs to be nurtured, however. Pay lots of attention to your adorable buddy. Talk to little Fluffy, hold her, pet her, and play with her. Don’t be surprised if your furball wants to be on your lap as much as possible. Kittens need to feel loved and safe to thrive.
